Jesus — que considerou ser grave pecado tentar a Deus (Mt 4:7; Lc 4:12) — foi tentado continuamente pelo *diabo (Mt 4:1ss.; Lc 4:1ss.), pelas multidões que quiseram fazê-lo rei (Jo 6:15), por Pedro que desejou que Jesus abandonasse sua missão messiânica do *Servo de YHVH (Mt 16:23) e até mesmo por seus algozes (Mt 27:42). Apesar de tudo, venceu tentação após tentação e Tentação e levou até o fim sua missão de morrer por toda a humanidade (Mt 26:26ss.). Como Jesus, seus *discípulos são tentados e podem sucumbir (Lc 8:13; 22:31ss.). Por isso, os discípulos devem vigiar e orar (Mt 26:41 e par.), rogando a Deus que os livre da queda (Mt 6:13; Lc 11:4).
